Meet the Lesson Horses

There are many reasons why riders may need to ride one of our horses rather than one of their own.  We do have a limited number of quality horses and ponies available.  Each one has something different to offer.

Our lesson horses are carefully selected, professionally trained and regularly schooled.    Each one is an important and loving member of our family that we graciously share with our clients.

Buddy joined us after completing his time at Del Val College...he graduated with Lisa.  He is a 15.3 hand, red roan, QH gelding.  Buddy is an all around good guy.  Western Pleasure is where he started his career.  Now 18 years old, he loves to jump and turns in a very steady dressage test.  He is a pleasure to have in the family and has quite an expressive face.

I've Got A Secret is our newest addition to the lesson program.  He arrived at the end of May, 2004.  Secret is a 14.0 hand Pinto gelding.  We searched high and low for just the right horse for the job.  He is very sweet and loves people and attention.  He is young and has to learn all of the barn rules and how to be a lesson horse yet, but stop by his stall and introduce yourself.  He'll be appearing in a lesson near you soon!  Wait until you see him, he is just toooo cute!

July 2004, Secret is being ridden lightly by some of the more experienced young riders and doing well.  Secret is showing great interest in being worked...throwing his halter down the aisle when he hasn't had a turn to be ridden, or gotten as much attention as he would like.   He is an even bigger puppy dog now than when he arrived.  He is very busy taking everything in, trying to learn how to be one of the grown up horses.  He is learning very fast and is loving it.  We are happy to have him and he seems happy with his new family and role.

July 2005, Secret is now 3 and a half years old.  Time to start some real work.  He started working with Lorri this month a couple times a week.  He has even started doing 1 or 2 lessons per week.  Secret is proving to be a very sweet, kind, gentle and willing riding horse.  He really wants to learn and tries so hard to please.  A real pleasure to work with.  Of course, he is still just so darn cute!

Whisper is a 19 year old 14.2 hand Registered Quarter Horse mare.  She is quiet, steady and loves kids.  Her size makes her perfect for our young riders as well as most of our adults.  Whisper is great for learning rising trot, sitting trot, cantering, and jumping.  She is awesome on the trail and so well behaved at the shows.  She really takes care of her riders.

We are very proud of Whisper.  We knew Whisper before we were able to own her.  She had some unfortunate handling before coming to us, and much to our shock even ended up at the New Holland auction.  But with the help of our friends and colleagues in the horse business, we were able to track her down after the auction and bring her home with us.  We have really taking care to help her rebuild her trust in humans and to rebuild her self esteem.   It has been a long road but the walls that she had put up around her heart have come down.  She is a very special girl who has given we humans another chance.  Thanks Whisper we won't let you down!

Shanelle is a 17 year old 15.3 hand Thoroughbred mare.  She is quiet, kind, nurturing, and loving.  Shanelle is a confirmed training level and first level dressage horse.  We are quite proud of her accomplishments in the show ring at both local dressage schooling shows and USA Eq/USDF recognized dressage shows.  She was always in ribbons and had solid scores in the upper 50's and 60's.

Most importantly we are so proud of her at home as she so carefully and willingly helps people with their riding.  Shanelle is great for learning how to ride with your seat (not your hand), and how to follow a forward, freely moving horse.  She is also wonderful on the trail, can jump the moon and is well behaved at shows.

June 24th 1964-January 17th 2005

Scarlett left us this past January.  She would have been 41 years old this June.  She was my long time companion and one of my best friends for 22 years.  She taught me so much, and not just about riding.  She made me smile and laugh, she comforted me while I cried, she listened to my problems,  kept all my secrets, and was consulted before marrying my husband.   She was the lady in the barn.  More than just the alpha, she was the boss, the teacher, the enforcer, the supervisor, the wise guy, the gentle role model, the baby sitter, the sassy red head who got insulted when you made her wear a halter to come in from turn out and pinched by backside every morning when I checked her blankets .  After all...she was Scarlett...0ne of a kind and certainly never to be forgotten or replaced.  The barn is not the same, and never will be.

One of the best horses that could ever be.  We miss her and were so fortunate to have had her grace our lives for such a long time.

Good Bye my friend and thank you for everything!
